报告题目: A ROAD TO THE SPECTRAL RADIUS

报告摘要: Spectral analysis of non-local operators plays an important role in a number of fields of mathematics among which are functional differential equations, mathematical physics, dynamical systems etc. The report is devoted to Variational Principles of calculation of the spectral radius of such operators that take their origin in the work by I.M. Gelfand, P. Halmos, P. Walters, D. Ruelle, A.B. Antonevich, A. Kitover, A.V. Lebedev and others. We discuss the prehistory of the problems and objects in question, present a series of concrete examples of calculation of the spectral radius by means of Variational Principles and outline a number of non-trivial phenomena (counterexamples) arising in this part of the spectral theory.
